Adopt Karlotta

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 6 years

Country of Origin: Hungary The pretty Karlotta was found homeless wandering around in a neighboring community of Kecskemét on February 2, 2024, and reported to the animal shelter. Why Karlotta was on the road alone will remain a mystery, as she was not missed. For us, even after all these years, it remains incomprehensible, even though it might be better for Karlotta... Karlotta now waits "behind bars" for the chance to travel to a new, happy life with wonderful people who will never leave her behind. Karlotta was initially quite shy and reserved, but always friendly and loving. We don't know what she experienced, probably not much that was good. Gradually, she is opening up, and it's lovely to see that she is still ready to trust us when given time, step by step toward a new life. She is slowly enjoying the cuddles and the attention and affection, something she didn't know from her past. The first few minutes she is still a bit shy, but she builds trust when she realizes that you mean her well. The leash still frightens her a little, but practice makes perfect, and Karlotta will surely do her best to please her people and do everything right. She also needs to learn a few things from the dog 101 class, together with her two-legged friends. Karlotta gets along well with her fellow animals and is currently being integrated into a pack. For our charming Karlotta, we are looking for enthusiastic dog lovers who will love, value, and respect her. Loving people who will make up for what she missed, showing her what it feels like to have a caring home, a personal food bowl, a soft bed, and people who will spoil her with lots of cuddles, exciting walks, dog-appropriate mental stimulation, and full family integration. Karlotta had a vet appointment on March 21, 2024. She has broken teeth that may need to be removed. Update: The teeth do not need to be removed yet but should be monitored. June 9, 2025: Karlotta has been living at the animal shelter for over a year – she longs more than anything for a loving family. She is a sensitive, friendly female dog who needs time to build trust. Once she has your heart, she is gentle, loyal, and clingy. She gets along well with other dogs, walks nicely on a leash, and loves quiet, respectful people – preferably with dog experience. A confident dog buddy would be ideal for support. She doesn't like chaos, but she craves closeness and security. Karlotta is waiting for people who will give her a new life with patience, love, and understanding. Karlotta was allowed to enter a foster home in Switzerland in early October 2025. Foster home update from December 22, 2025: Karlotta will only be rehomed as a second dog because she needs this security. A garden would be advantageous. She is happy with all the dogs, whether big or small. When she arrives, she will open up and become a confident dog.❤️ Many thanks from Karlotta to Nicola Fassbind for taking on the paternity.

About Karlotta

What life with Karlotta looks like

Karlotta is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Karlotta, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Karlotta?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Karlotta on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Karlotta if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Karlotta already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Karlotta isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Karlotta and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
