adoption requirements adoption process Ask about this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Ask about this cat now! The approximately 6-month-old tomcat Katerlie was found on the street together with his siblings. The kittens were suffering from a respiratory infection at that time, but they could fortunately be treated and are now on the road to recovery. Unfortunately, one of his siblings did not survive. Katerlie is currently living in the cat room and shows himself to be a shy, sensitive kitten who needs some time to build trust with people. As an former stray kitten, he does not yet know close contact with humans well. When he feels uncertain, he first hides or even hisses briefly - not out of aggression, but out of fear. However, with patience, calmness and loving affection, he can learn that humans mean him no harm. Therefore, we wish for Katerlie a quiet home with understanding people who give him the time to come at his own pace. It is also important to have cat companionship, because Katerlie gets along well with other cats and should not be kept as a single cat. Whether he gets along with dogs has not yet been tested. Since Katerlie has lived as a stray cat so far and is still cautious, he will not be rehomed into a home with free access, but into an apartment suitable living space with sufficient space, retreat possibilities and ideally a secured balcony. Who will give this sensitive little tomcat the chance for a loving home and show him how nice a cat's life can be in safety? Before Katerlie moves into his new home, like all our cats and tomcats, he will be neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed and treated for fleas. And he will be tested for FIV and FeLV. Also his EU pet passport will go into the suitcase and can be after a positive Many thanks Ker W. This cat is to be kept indoors only.

About Katerlie

What life with Katerlie looks like

Katerlie is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Katerlie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Katerlie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Katerlie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Katerlie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Katerlie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Katerlie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Katerlie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
