Kelmi

Male · Puppy · 9 months

Young Kelmi is currently only accepting inquiries via email, contrary to normal procedures. Please describe your dog experience and what kind of home you would offer a boy. I will try to answer emails within a couple of days. Energetic and multi-talented Kelmi is looking for a new home. Kelmi is a crossbreed between two active and demanding breeds, a doberman and a malinois, so this boy may not suit every home. A friendly and open personality, this energetic package is always first everywhere. There's no lack of energy from this boy. Curious and quick to learn, some basic commands have already been taught to the boy. Has a watchful nature and alerts when strangers arrive as well as when people pass by the yard. Gets along with other dogs, and in the new home can have a social, playful companion of similar size. Kelmi will not be placed with another male dog to avoid possible future challenges. The leash is still a bit variable, sometimes walking is smooth and sometimes he does not really want to go in the direction indicated by the leash. Needs a lot of training for leash use and getting used to different situations, some situations may be stressful, so support from the handler is needed. Traveling by car causes some discomfort for the boy. Kelmi has never been alone in a foster home, there is a dog from the substitute home as company and there is usually someone at home, so it is advisable to start with short periods of alone time once the dog is settled in its new home. A home with dog experience is being sought for Kelmi, preferably a detached house on a quiet residential area, and the new home is required to have experience with pedigree breeds or other service dog breeds. The new home must commit to taking care of the dog's daily adequate exercise, stimulation and training. As an active dog, Kelmi could very well fit with a pleasant hobby so that boredom at home is avoided. Not surrendered to a family with children or as the first dog. Kelmi is clean indoors and the foster home is in Uusimaa, where the boy can get to know the place comfortably. Currently weighs 30kg.

Nuori Kelmi vailla koirakokemusta omaavaa kotia Kelmistä otetaan kyselyjä vastaan tällä hetkellä AINOASTAAN sähköpostitse normaaliohjeista poiketen. Kerrothan kattavasti koirakokemuksestasi ja millainen koti sinulla olisi pojalle tarjota. Pyrin vastaamaan sähköposteihin parin päivän sisällä. Vauhdikas, monirotuinen Kelmi etsii uutta kotia. Automatkustaminen tuottaa pojalle hieman pahoinvointia. Täysin yksin ei Kelmi sijaiskodissa ole ollut, seurana on sijaiskodin oma koira ja kotona ollaan muutenkin paljon joten yksinolo harjoitukset kannattaa aloittaa heti koiran kotiuduttua pienin ajanjaksoin. Kelmille etsitään koirakokemusta omaavaa kotia mieluiten omakotitalosta rauhalliselta asuinalueelta ja tulevalta kodilta vaaditaan kokemusta rotuperimässä olevista roduista tai muista palveluskoiraroduista. Tulevan kodin tulee sitoutua huolehtimaan koiran päivittäisestä runsaasta liikunnan, aktivoinnin ja koulutuksen määrästä. Aktiivisen luonteen omaavana koirana Kelmi voisi hyvinkin sopia jonkin mukavan harrastuksen pariin jotta turhautumiselta kotioloissa vältyttäisiin. Ei luovuteta lapsiperheeseen eikä ensimmäiseksi koiraksi. Kelmi on sisäsiisti ja sijaiskodissa Uudenmaan alueella jonne poikaan pääsee sovitusti tutustumaan. Painoa tällä hetkellä 30kg.

About Kelmi

What life with Kelmi looks like

Kelmi is a large puppy/kitten dog waiting at Rekku Rescue ry in Helsinki.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇫🇮Adopting from Finland

Frequently asked

Adopting Kelmi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kelmi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Rekku Rescue ry handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kelmi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kelmi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Rekku Rescue ry will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kelmi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kelmi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Rekku Rescue ry early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kelmi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FI). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
