Kicsi

Maltese · Female · Senior · 12 years

Our charming little Kicsi comes from Hungary and is a former breeding dog. In her previous life, she didn't get to know much, as she was merely exploited to produce puppies for money. Kicsi has been living for some time now in her wonderful foster home in Neuss and has developed very well – but unfortunately, she still lacks her forever home where she can finally arrive. Kicsi shows herself to be an incredibly loving, brave, and curious female dog. Initially, she is reserved with strangers, but she bonds very closely with her primary caregiver and seeks safety and orientation from her. At the same time, she brings a certain sensitivity and needs some time to adjust to changes. With patience and calmness, she builds trust and always shows herself to be cooperative and easy to approach. She is estimated to be around 12 years old, but for her age, she is an unexpectedly fit female dog who wants to be active. She loves being out and about, enjoys walks, and likes to engage in search games. She particularly enjoys exploring the garden, so we are looking for a home with a garden for her. Kicsi is well-tempered with cats, other dogs, and even chickens. Children unsettle her, so we would like to place her in a home without children, or at least where any existing children are already in their teenage years. Kicsi wishes for a quiet and loving home with people who bring time, patience, and understanding. As she is strongly attached to her primary caregiver, being alone is still difficult for her – ideally, her people are at home a lot or can take her with them. She is not yet fully house-trained, but she makes progress every day. Kicsi is likely a mixed breed of Maltese and Dackel, weighs about 6 kg, and is a delicate but simultaneously incredibly strong little fighter who wants to finally arrive. Kicsi is neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated and can only be placed after contacting us by phone Monday to Friday from 10-18h or by email:.

About Kicsi

What life with Kicsi looks like

Kicsi is a senior maltese dog waiting at Tierheim Wuppertal in Wuppertal.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kicsi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kicsi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Wuppertal handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kicsi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kicsi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Wuppertal will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kicsi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kicsi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Wuppertal early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kicsi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
