Adopt KILO

Vizsla · Unknown · Adult · 6 years

Cute male dog is urgently seeking a new home. Character & Daily Life:KILO is a sensitive dog who requires clear, calm guidance. In a familiar environment, he shows himself to be calm, confident, cuddly, and easily approachable. He is house-trained, gets along well with fellow animals, and is maulkorb-trained. He is very hunt-motivated and not compatible with cats. KILO is well-trained, knows many commands, and is very manageable in everyday life with forward-looking management. He loves exercise, long walks, running beside the bike or sitting on the cargo bike, hiking, as well as mountain and winter activities. Theme: KILO is initially very skeptical towards strangers. If he feels pressured or overwhelmed, he may out of fear lunge forward and bite. This behavior requires management and ideally experience with insecure dogs. However, it is well manageable. Large groups of strangers in the home can trigger territorial stress. He is unsettled by very large crowds and high sensory density, but he can generally be well managed. Public transportation is, however, absolutely no problem for him despite many people. Handling & Socialization:KILO is familiar with restaurant visits, car and public transportation rides, being left alone, and a wide variety of everyday situations (such as shopping at hardware stores). He is very adaptable but requires clear structures, instructions, and a primary caregiver who can read his signals. Sought after: A quiet, childless household without children or plans for children, ideally with experience in handling dogs with anxiety and insecurity issues. Cat households are excluded. City living is possible, but a quieter environment would be advantageous. Placement Reason: Due to a changed living situation (new partnership and concrete desire for children), I can no longer provide KILO with the suitable environment in the long term.

About KILO

What life with KILO looks like

KILO is a medium-sized adult vizsla dog waiting at Tierheim Krems in Krems an der Donau.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting KILO, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about KILO?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Krems handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw KILO on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt KILO if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Krems will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is KILO already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if KILO isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Krems early rather than rehoming privately; they know KILO and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
