Nils

Vizsla · Male · Young · 3 years

Nils is a purebred Vizsla who came to our shelter due to his socially motivated behavior towards the rest of the family. The handsome male is a very curious dog, but initially approaches new people with skepticism and some restlessness. In everyday life, he generally remains calm, but during walks, he can be quite hectic at times and finds it difficult to calm down. Nils still needs to learn that he doesn't have to take responsibility for everything. Currently, he tends to claim resources and especially his caregivers for himself and wants to defend them against others. He needs people who can provide him with clear structures and security so he can let go of this responsibility. Without his familiar people, Nils sometimes appears disoriented and reacts very excited in some situations. Therefore, it is important to approach him with calmness, consistency, and understanding. Due to his social motivation - his tendency to defend his caregivers against other people - we are looking for an experienced home for Nils with people who can correctly assess his behavior and enjoy working with him. With the right guidance, Nils has the potential to become a faithful and loyal companion. Do you think you are the right person for Nils or would you like to get to know him better? Then contact us.

About Nils

What life with Nils looks like

Nils is a large young adult vizsla dog waiting at Tierschutzverein für Tirol in Innsbruck.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nils, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nils?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein für Tirol handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nils on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nils if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein für Tirol will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nils already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nils isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein für Tirol early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nils and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
