, 4yrs, intact – **EPILEPTIC** Harvey is a young-ish dog who is looking for a very special home where his specific medical needs will be understood and prioritised. Harvey was diagnosed with epilepsy aged 1, and takes twice daily medication for this, but still has a seizure every few weeks. His seizures generally last a few minutes, he lies on his side while he is seizing, and after a short recovery period he is back to his normal happy self. (He is currently under the care of a veterinary specialist, and with adjustments in medication it may be possible for the frequency of his seizures to be further reduced.) Harvey is a much loved and well cared for boy. He was only surrendered to us due to very sad and sudden unexpected family circumstances. We are looking for people who are going to be able to give him the time and attention he deserves, and a home where he won’t be left alone for too long each day, although he CAN be left alone for short periods if needed. Someone with experience of living with an epileptic dog would be useful but not essential – as long as you are willing to stay with him and support him during seizures. Routine, stability, and a carefully managed diet are very important for controlling his epilepsy – he needs his meals and medication at roughly the same time every day, he needs to maintain a healthy lean weight, and he shouldn’t be fed too many snacks or table scraps! Harvey is VERY friendly, he likes to be close to his people, and he loves snuggling up for a cuddle. He is currently living with other dogs and gets on well with most dogs he meets. He doesn’t have quite as much energy as a typical Vizsla, but he still enjoys a couple of hours of offlead exercise every day. He is very food oriented (great for training!), he has good recall, and is generally just a lovely big soft lump of a dog. Harvey’s new people will not be expected to shoulder any costs relating to his epilepsy, as Vizsla Welfare will pay for any and all investigations and treatments required, for the rest of his life.
