Kimmy arrived at S.A.R.A as a stray and heavily pregnant, having made herself a little nest in someone's shed. It wasn't long before she gave birth, but unfortunately things didn't go quite as smoothly as we had hoped and Kimmy needed an emergency Caesarean section. This was actually a first for us at the centre with a cat, so there were certainly some very anxious moments. Thankfully, Kimmy was an absolute superstar. She recovered amazingly well and, despite everything she had been through, continued to feed and care for her kittens after her operation. The girl done good! ❤️ And if you think going through all of that might have affected Kimmy's personality, think again! She is literally one of the sweetest, most handleable and loving cats we have had. She has such a gentle nature and is incredibly affectionate with people. Kimmy enjoys fuss and attention and is the sort of cat who makes you wonder how on earth such a lovely girl ended up as a stray in the first place. She has been through quite a lot in her short life, and now she deserves the chance to be someone's very special companion — somewhere she can settle, feel safe and simply enjoy being a much-loved pet. Kimmy will need a home where she can eventually have safe access to the outdoors. We feel this is important for her wellbeing and happiness. She can live with children aged 6 years and over, provided they understand that, like all cats, Kimmy needs to be treated with kindness and given space when she chooses to have some quiet time. Children should understand that a cat isn't a toy and that when Kimmy walks away, hides or wants to be left alone, she must be allowed to do so. We would be looking for a family who will give her plenty of affection but also respect her boundaries. Before adopting Kimmy, it's important to understand that bringing a rescue cat home is a process. Even the most affectionate cat can behave differently when faced with a completely new environment. 🏡 A quiet, safe room or area where she can initially settle. 🛏️ A comfortable bed and places where she can hide and feel secure. 🍽️ Good-quality food and fresh water available every day. 🚽 A clean litter tray, positioned somewhere quiet and away from food. 🪶 Toys and enrichment to keep her entertained. 🧗 Places to climb, scratch and explore. ❤️ Plenty of patience, affection and reassurance. Cats also need opportunities to behave naturally — scratching, climbing, playing, hiding, exploring and having somewhere quiet to retreat to. A happy cat isn't necessarily one who is constantly being handled; having the choice to interact or walk away is really important. One of the most important things for Kimmy's new family to understand is that she must NOT be allowed outside straight away. When a cat moves to a new home, they need time to learn that their new house is their safe place and to become properly settled with their new family. Kimmy should be kept indoors for approximately 6–9 weeks, depending on how quickly she settles. Some cats are ready sooner, while others need longer — there is no rush. During this settling-in period, she should have everything she needs indoors, including food, water, litter trays, beds, hiding places, scratching posts and enrichment. Once she is properly settled and her new family feels confident that she sees the house as home, outdoor access can be introduced gradually and safely. Her first outings should be carefully managed, ideally choosing a quiet time and allowing her to explore at her own pace. It is also important that her new family considers the safety of the surrounding area, particularly traffic and busy roads. Outdoor access should only be provided once Kimmy is fully settled, neutered and appropriately vaccinated. Kimmy has already shown us what an amazing girl she is. She came to us frightened, pregnant and needing help. She went through the stress of giving birth and then required surgery, yet she still carried on caring for her kittens and proved to be an incredible mum. Now it's Kimmy's turn. No more making nests in sheds. No more having kittens. No more wondering where her next safe place will be.
