Kira

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 12 years

I am Kira! I came to the shelter as part of a mandatory inspection and I am very hopeful that I will find a loving home where I can enjoy my twilight years. I am a very sweet and friendly dog and I still enjoy going for walks at my age. I am now taking it a bit more easy on my walks but I still thoroughly enjoy them. I am house trained, I don't destroy anything, I ride nicely in the car and I also walk nicely on a leash. I am open and friendly to people and I form a special bond with my caregivers. This is why being alone is very difficult for me at the moment: I cannot be left alone yet. I get along well with other dogs and also with cats. Due to my age, I have joint pain and I receive pain medication when needed. I also had a large ovarian tumor that was successfully removed surgically. Otherwise, my blood test and ultrasound were unremarkable. For my new home, I wish for loving people who have a lot of time for me and where I can be left alone as little as possible. My being left alone should be rebuilt slowly and step by step, this requires people who have the necessary time and opportunity to support me in this. I have no objections to other dogs, cats or children in the household. I could also feel very comfortable with loving seniors.I don't need any big adventures anymore. What is more important to me are people with whom I can belong, leisurely walks and a lot of time together. If you would like to give me a beautiful and loving twilight years, then please contact the shelter.Your Kira

Deine Kira

About Kira

What life with Kira looks like

Kira is an extra-large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein St. Pölten in St. Pölten.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kira, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kira?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein St. Pölten handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kira on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kira if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein St. Pölten will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Kira already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kira isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein St. Pölten early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kira and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
