Adopt Kiwi

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Hi, we are Kiwi and Rosie. We are a very cute pair looking for a nice home together. My girlfriend, Rosie, is a dwarf rabbit with a lion's head. She loves cuddles and will happily lie there. She is also very active and curious, and likes to run around. I, Kiwi, am just as active and curious, so we fit together perfectly. I find a stroke nice sometimes, but I prefer to just enjoy my own space. As you can see from the photos of us, I have a long coat. This is very beautiful and cute, but it also gets tangled easily. I need a lot of grooming. Brushing twice a week and sometimes cutting is necessary for me to keep my coat beautiful and tangle-free. We are looking for an owner who can provide a nice home (considering Kiwi's coat) and is willing to spend a lot of time on Kiwi's coat. For a meet and greet with us, you can email our caretakers. About Kiwi

What life with Kiwi looks like

Kiwi is a adult mixed breed rabbit waiting at Dierenopvang Hengelo in Hengelo.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kiwi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kiwi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenopvang Hengelo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kiwi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kiwi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenopvang Hengelo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kiwi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kiwi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenopvang Hengelo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kiwi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
