Knickerbocker

Scottish Fold · Male · Young · 1 year

The reserved Knickerbocker came to us at our shelter, because his former owners unfortunately could no longer do justice to him. At first, the entire situation was quite overwhelming for him and he wasn't quite sure how to handle it. However, he has adapted well and has gotten to know the animal shelter routine. Most of the time, he relaxes in one of his beloved caves, from where he prefers to observe the goings-on from a safe distance. Once his trust is earned, Knickerbocker shows his particularly charming side. Cuddles are a favorite of the sweet guy, as he purrs and drools, depending on what he feels like. However, he feels most comfortable when he can simply lie in his cave in a cozy manner. We can imagine that Knickerbocker will warm up in a quiet home over time and perhaps even approach his people to get his share of attention. For this, he needs patient people who can give him the time he needs to build trust. Knickerbocker came to the animal shelter together with several other cats. Since his former roommates have been rehomed as free roamers and the cats do not maintain a particularly close relationship with each other, they are now being rehomed separately. For health reasons, Knickerbocker will continue to live as an indoor cat. Therefore, we are looking for a home with a social and quiet first-time cat, so that he can continue to enjoy the company of fellow animals. Ideally, the second cat would also be a Scottish Fold or a cat that is not unsettled by Knickerbocker's facial expression. We do not recommend Knickerbocker to small children or dogs. He is a sensitive tomcat and can sometimes be startled quite easily. In a quiet environment with understanding people, he will be able to fully flourish.

DE·Show original

About Knickerbocker

What life with Knickerbocker looks like

Knickerbocker is a young adult scottish fold animal waiting at Zürcher Tierschutz in Zürich (Cantonal).

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Knickerbocker far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Knickerbocker, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Knickerbocker?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Zürcher Tierschutz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Knickerbocker on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Knickerbocker if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Zürcher Tierschutz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Knickerbocker already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Knickerbocker isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Zürcher Tierschutz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Knickerbocker and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
