Adopt Knöpfchen

Female · Adult · 10 years

Sometimes life writes stories that simply leave you speechless. Like the one about our Knöpfchen. The delicate female cat (born around 2016, European Shorthair mix) was abandoned in a transport box on a parking lot at Bliesbad during freezing temperatures. A place where she knew no one. Without protection. Without a chance. But Knöpfchen did not give up. Despite her handicaps—she is blind and likely has significant hearing impairment—she moves curiously through her world. She orients herself remarkably well and often shows her own little stubborn streak. Currently, Knöpfchen still finds people a bit scary. Closeness is not something she takes for granted. With a bit of patience, she can be petted, but she also makes it very clear when something doesn't suit her—quite the diva. Whoever pressures her or "wants something from her" will feel her prickly side. And that's why we are looking for very special people for Knöpfchen. A quiet home, without chaos, without expectations—but with understanding, respect, and a lot of patience. People who let her be just as she is. People who accept that trust is not a quick project for her, but a long-term investment. Knöpfchen won't be a cuddle cat on demand. But she is a little personality who, if given the space, will become part of life in her very own way. For her, we wish a pure suitable for apartment living in a manageable, safe environment where she can orient herself and find peace. Who will give this special soul the chance to finally arrive? If you would like to meet her, please click on the "Request Cat" button and fill out the online form completely. This way, we will have all the relevant information for an initial conversation.

About Knöpfchen

What life with Knöpfchen looks like

Knöpfchen is a adult cat waiting at Tierheim Ludwigshafen in Ludwigshafen/Rheim.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Knöpfchen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Knöpfchen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ludwigshafen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Knöpfchen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Knöpfchen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ludwigshafen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Knöpfchen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Knöpfchen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ludwigshafen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Knöpfchen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
