adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Knoppers has found a home! His story: A tiny puppy was found in the cold, Romanian winter, weighing just 500 grams. Thanks to the care of his foster parents, he survived and grew into a incredibly friendly, cuddly, and very attached young dog. Therefore, the fact that the wonderful little Knoppers, as he is now named, received no saving request and had to take the long, noisy, and dreary journey to the public shelter in Baia Mare at just 7 months old was even more heartbreaking! For sensitive dogs like him, this loud, chaotic, and depressing environment without any retreat options is a real torture, and unfortunately, it has been confirmed that his too-long stay at this terrible place left deep scars on his soul and significantly changed his nature. The once lively male dog had become a shy, extremely fearful dog who no longer allowed being touched. But then the turning point: thanks to a loving aunt who was very close to Knoppers's fate, and thanks to the cooperation of some animal friends from Romania, Switzerland, and Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. from Germany, the shy male dog moved into a socialization project in early November 2024. He now lives peacefully and quietly with people and fellow animals, enjoys the comfort of a home, the joys of a large property, and can take his time to build trust and open up. Knoppers will be able to shed his fear step by step. And so, an appropriate home or foster home is still being sought by compassionate people who are genuinely willing to invest time and love in Knoppers. They should also be able to understand Knoppers's fears and interpret his body language to provide the necessary orientation and security in a calm manner. It will certainly not be an easy journey at the moment, but the reward when one has earned Knoppers's trust will be immense. The tri-colored fur, combined with the beautiful face and a shoulder height of about 55-60 cm, gives the active and intelligent mixed-breed male dog an impressive and noble appearance. He gets along well with his fellow animals. Whether this also applies to cats, we cannot say at the moment. A more rural, barren home with constant trusted people would ease Knoppers's adaptation. We hope that the lovable Knoppers will one day run through the fields unburdened, gnaw contentedly on a bone for his forever dog, and again have cuddles mean the most to him. Who helps make this hope a reality?

About Knoppers

What life with Knoppers looks like

Knoppers is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Knoppers, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Knoppers?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Knoppers on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Knoppers if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Knoppers already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Knoppers isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Knoppers and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
