Adopt Koppany

Komondor · Male · Young · 3 years

Koppany is a Komondor puppy born in May 2023, who was seized by his owner due to catastrophic living conditions. He will be neutered before his departure. He is a very friendly and balanced young dog who forms strong bonds with his people. Frivolously bounding around, he is attentive and full of energy. He is an extremely intelligent pup who acts independently and needs tasks. An enclosed yard where he can "guard" is essential for the acceptance of a Komondor. He would make an excellent family dog and a loyal friend to older children. Koppany shows signs of follicular conjunctivitis (follicular conjunctivitis). This is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, often seen in young puppies, characterized by the formation of small nodules on the conjunctiva of the third eyelid. These follicles can irritate the conjunctiva, leading to redness, tearing, and itching. Many cases resolve on their own as the puppy ages. Koppany currently requires anti-inflammatory eye drops. Due to the conditions in the shelter (dust, wind, cold) not being conducive to healing his eyes, we urgently seek a foster home or a permanent place for him. He gets along well with female dog, and his behavior towards other dogs and cats is not known.

About Koppany

What life with Koppany looks like

Koppany is a young adult komondor dog waiting at Animal Care Hungary.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Koppany, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Koppany?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Hungary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Koppany on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Koppany if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Hungary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Koppany already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Koppany isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Hungary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Koppany and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
