Adopt Łajka

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 14 years

Łajka - will someone love? Status: available for adoption Łajka has already won life once. Now she is looking for someone who will truly begin her life with her ❤️ Just a few months ago, she was paralyzed in a ditch in Radom. A head injury, brain swelling, and seizures – the prognosis was very poor. Yet, Łajka decided to fight. Today, after rehabilitation, she resides in a temporary shelter in Trójmiasto, where every day she shows how far she has come. She is a young, approximately 3-year-old female dog, who is gradually opening up to the world. She wags her tail, rejoices at the return of her people to the home, and increasingly approaches for closeness. Not long ago, she was afraid to step on the couch – today, she jumps on it and walks off it with pride, like a queen 😊 Łajka is still delicate and timid. She needs a quiet, patient home that will allow her to trust at her own pace. For her, the company of other animals is very important – with them, she feels safe, learns about daily routines, and has no problem being left alone at home. She would fit perfectly into a home with another calm dog or another animal companion. She currently lives with children aged 12 and 14, and she does well in such an environment. Łajka no longer needs rescue. She needs love, patience, and her own human. Someone who will see not her past, but her huge heart that is slowly opening to the world. Could it be you where she waits for a place forever? 🏡 — METRYCZKA PS — 🧮 Age: 01-01-2022 🚻 Gender: female 🐾 Size: 12 kg 🏀 Activity level: moderate ❤️ neutering: no ℹ️ CIP: yes 💉 Vaccinations: yes 📍 Location: Temporary Shelter in Trójmiasto ✅ dog is under the care of the Trójmiasto branch of the Judyta Foundation for Puppies ✅ dog resides in a temporary home within the Trójmiasto area and surroundings ✅ Adoption requirement: completion of an application, pre-adoption visit, and signing of an adoption agreement ✅ LINK TO APPLICATION:

Łajka - czy ktoś pokocha? Status: do adopcji Łajka już raz wygrała życie. Teraz szuka kogoś, z kim będzie mogła naprawdę zacząć żyć ❤️ Jeszcze kilka miesięcy temu leżała sparaliżowana w rowie pod Radomiem. Uraz głowy, obrzęk mózgu, ataki padaczkowe – rokowania były bardzo złe. A jednak Łajka postanowiła walczyć. Potrzebuje miłości, cierpliwości i swojego człowieka.

About Łajka

What life with Łajka looks like

Łajka is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Fundacja Judyta dla Psiego Losu in Poland.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Łajka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Łajka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja Judyta dla Psiego Losu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Łajka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Łajka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja Judyta dla Psiego Losu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Łajka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Łajka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja Judyta dla Psiego Losu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Łajka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
