Adopt Legion

German Shepherd · Male

Training: Legion is a beautiful and intelligent long-haired German shepherd with a pedigree. He is a confident dog, yet requires a responsible and experienced owner. Legion was brought to the shelter because his behavior and needs exceeded the previous owners' capabilities. At the shelter, he shows territorial behavior - he scares people who appear within his sight, especially in the cage. He needs time to trust new people - the introductory process preceding adoption will require time, patience and consistency. Legion is very smart and motivated to learn, he knows many commands such as "sit", "shake", "lie down", "speak" or "stay". He loves toys and baths, which can be a great way to build a relationship with him. He is physically strong, but usually does not fully use his strength. On a leash, he pulls moderately, which changes near other dogs - he can become strongly excited and usually calms down for a long time after passing another dog. He more easily builds relationships with women, but one of his volunteers is a man, which shows that building a bond with him is possible for everyone. Here, a calm approach is key. He is distrustful of people he doesn't know, which combined with his territoriality will require the caregiver to carefully introduce him to new people and for example, receiving guests. He is a controlling dog who tries to push boundaries - therefore he needs a leader who can read his signals and respond appropriately. In the cage, he does not destroy. If he accepts his caregiver, he becomes a wonderful companion. Due to his sensitivity and need for close cooperation with a person, Legion needs a home where he will be a full member of the family, absolutely cannot live in a kennel or shed. Legion is a dog with great potential for people willing to dedicate time and attention to him. We are looking for a responsible home for him, which will provide him with stability and the possibility of further development. If you are a patient, consistent person and ready to take on a challenge - Legion can be your best friend. For Legion we are looking for a home: - in a quiet neighborhood, - without other animals, as he shows a negative attitude towards dogs and other animals, - without children, as he needs a predictable environment without additional stimuli, - open to working with a behaviorist, - with one or several household members who have experience with dogs requiring work and are ready for a longer process of building a relationship.

Usposobienie: Legion to piękny i inteligentny owczarek niemiecki długowłosy z rodowodem.

About Legion

What life with Legion looks like

Legion is a large adult german shepherd dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Legion, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Legion?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Legion on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Legion if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Legion already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Legion isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Legion and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
