Adopt Upsi

German Shepherd · Male

Temperament: Upsi is a long-haired German Shepherd dog. In the animal shelter, he has shown to be a very stressed dog. He gets stressed and excited by many stimuli (work on this is ongoing), and with a large accumulation of emotions, unfortunately, he displays self-aggressive behaviors and stereotypes - he circles in circles, attacks his tail. Because of this, he receives psychotropic medications, which in combination with behavioral work have significantly reduced the frequency of such behaviors. Upsi reacts very negatively to other animals, especially dogs. He also has a problem with street traffic, trying to chase cars. Therefore, he should live in a quiet area - where there are not many dogs nearby, and the traffic intensity is low. He is looking for a home with a garden near green areas such as forests and fields. Upsi is looking for a home where he will be a full-fledged family member, he needs close contact with humans. From a distance, walks with Upsim are very pleasant - he walks on a loose leash, gladly initiates contact with the handler. He really likes baths in water bodies, rolling in sand, and chewing natural chews. He knows basic commands. It is recommended that further work with Upsim after adoption be conducted under the supervision of a behaviorist. He should not live with small children - he needs a stable and predictable environment. He requires a larger amount of time to build a relationship with the caregiver, but once he trusts someone, he allows grooming procedures, demands affection, and likes to lie right next to a person. Upsi is looking for a home: - in a quiet area (where there are not many dogs and low street traffic intensity), - with a predictable routine, preferably with a small number of household members, - without other animals, - without children, - ready to cooperate with a behaviorist.

Usposobienie: Upsi to pies w typie długowłosego owczarka niemieckiego.

About Upsi

What life with Upsi looks like

Upsi is a large adult german shepherd dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Upsi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Upsi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Upsi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Upsi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Upsi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Upsi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Upsi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
