Lejka

Female · Adult · 5 years

Native Country: Hungary Lejka was found on March 19, 2026, along with a German Shepherd, on a landfill in the outer district of Kecskemét. The shelter staff picked up both dogs and brought them to Menhely. During the chip check, they found the German Shepherd’s owner, who was informed and came to pick him up. However, the chip scanner did not show anything for Lejka, and the owner of the German Shepherd was unfamiliar with Lejka. Sadly, we know nothing about her past. Nonetheless, another wonderful list dog among many that are almost hopeless in the shelter, but Lejka still hopes to be discovered by loving people and leave the shelter soon. Our fingers are crossed. Lejka is a wonderful female dog with a lot of catch-up to do and wants to finally lead a dog-friendly life. At first, Lejka was a bit shy, which is understandable, as shelter life with a lot of stress and noise is not easy for the dogs. However, she has settled in and makes the most of her new situation. She is a very friendly, nice, lively, and loving female dog and enjoys being spoiled with cuddles and spending time with her, which unfortunately is often lacking in the hectic shelter routine. She needs a lot of love and closeness. Lejka is a smart four-legged friend, and her new people should be happy to teach her a few more things, as Lejka still doesn’t know everything about the dog ABCs, but she already does a great job on the leash, and some finer points still need to be worked on. We are sure that Lejka will be happy and eager to learn when her two-leggeds practice with her, and she will catch up quickly. She gets along well with her fellow animals and lives in a 2-pet home with Corson, which works out well. For our charming Lejka, we wish loving and dog-experienced people with a plan for life and dog care, which will give Lejka the chance to lead a dog-friendly life as a beloved family member and provide her with the love, care, security, and safety she so desperately needs. Outdoorsy people who like to go on adventures in nature with Lejka, challenge her, support her, and lead her with love but also consistency. Lejka will repay you a thousand times over and be a faithful companion. Who can show Lejka what she’s capable of? Upon arrival, Lejka had a few hairless spots on her head and old scars. As Lejka is a list mix, you need to check your local community’s housing conditions regarding dog ownership if you are interested. Lejka can travel from around the end of May 2026 if she finds a home or foster home.

Wem darf Lejka zeigen, was in ihr steckt?

About Lejka

What life with Lejka looks like

Lejka is a adult dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lejka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lejka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lejka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lejka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lejka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lejka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lejka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
