Adopt Lemon

Mixed Breed · Unknown

The Carpen shelter kennel is located in a quiet rural area. For dogs living in the shelter kennel, the location is ideal, but being in a remote area also has its challenges. There are not many other animal shelters in the nearby area, and therefore there are many homeless dogs in this area. The word shelter kennel has spread, and unfortunately, people often abandon their animals near the farm. In spring 2023, the person maintaining the farm, Carmen, found a mother dog with her very small puppies from a nearby village. The mother was very friendly and people-oriented, so it was very likely that the family had been abandoned and were unwanted in the village. The active mother quickly found a home through another organization, and one of the puppies also came to Finland through them, but Lemon and Lantus are quite shy, and ended up in the Embla program. Lemon and Lantus are typical young dogs raised in the shelter kennel. They are very excited about human visitors and wag their tails non-stop throughout the entire visit. Treats offered from the hand taste good, but the situation is still so new and stressful that they don't dare come close. People really interest them, and whenever the right opportunity arises, each of the siblings cautiously sniffs the visitors' feet and fingers. Lemon's tail doesn't seem to stop at all during the entire visit, and he appears to be a very happy and lively personality. He would definitely benefit a lot from a lively dog companion in his future home or foster home.

Carpen tarha sijaitsee rauhallisella maaseudulla.

About Lemon

What life with Lemon looks like

Lemon is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Embla Rescue in Helsinki.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇮Adopting from Finland

Finnish shelters require a home visit and an adoption contract. Animals are vetted; the EU pet passport covers cross-border travel within the bloc.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lemon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lemon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Embla Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lemon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lemon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Embla Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lemon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lemon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Embla Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lemon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FI). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
