Lenny

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Lenny is a male mixed breed dog, approximately 50cm tall and weighing an unknown weight. He was born around September 2025. Lenny lives with us in a mixed group of dogs and gets along well with them. Currently, he is still somewhat reserved and keeps some distance from humans. However, we are confident that Lenny will become more open-minded over the next few weeks. Walking on leash is not working out so well at the moment, but we are practicing diligently. Lenny has a handicap: his right paw lacks toes, causing him to limp. He copes with this quite well. Due to this handicap, it's important to know that Lenny is not suitable for dog sports. We are looking for a home where there is experience with uncertain dogs. A confident first-time dog owner could be very helpful, but it's not a requirement. At the moment, we cannot assess whether Lenny can live with children. We advise anyone who wants to bring a dog into their home to seek professional help from a dog school beforehand. We can only describe him as we get to know him in our shelter environment. Many dogs develop differently in new homes and it's highly recommended to have competent advice by your side immediately. Would you like to meet Lenny? Please call us for more information and/or to schedule a visit at the shelter. It would be best to call between 9:00-12:00 or 14:00-16:00. Please understand that not everyone will answer immediately, as our office is not always staffed and employees are usually busy with animal care. Don't give up and try again. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Lenny does not have a sponsor yet.

About Lenny

What life with Lenny looks like

Lenny is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Alsfeld in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lenny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lenny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Alsfeld handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lenny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lenny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Alsfeld will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lenny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lenny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Alsfeld early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lenny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
