Leo &#8211

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Leo must be given up due to the changed living conditions of his people. He can currently still stay there, but only for a short time. Therefore, he urgently needs a new home. Leo has a very affectionate and friendly personality. He is very enthusiastic, eager to learn, and kind. At home, he is quiet and relaxed, but he can also be impulsive outside. He is sensitive and tends to have an increased level of excitement, which can cause him to react excessively to stimuli. However, he remains friendly and shows no aggression. He expresses himself through snorting, stormy or hectic behavior, and restlessness. He is currently also under medication in this regard. No illnesses or allergies are known. He has already attended a puppy class and a young dog class and knows the basic commands. Being left alone is only temporarily possible at the moment, and must still be built up. He often jumps on other dogs during encounters. Cats in the household are not suitable. Leo needs dog-experienced, patient, and understanding people who will adopt him as a family member, integrate him into their daily lives, and engage with him. He would be happy to join a family with responsible children and as a second dog, and he will receive the necessary time for adjustment. Otherwise, he can also be a single dog in a new home full of life and joy. Leo is vaccinated, microchipped, and in cooperation with the Tierschutzbund Basel Regional, he will be rehomed (after prior place check: More about Leo here: Leo). If you are interested in our dogs and would like to meet them informally, apply with the button below and we will contact you as soon as possible. We thank you for your understanding if the processing of your request takes a little longer. We will do our best to give you a response as soon as possible. However, it may happen that many requests come in at once or that our resources are temporarily urgently needed elsewhere.

About Leo &#8211

What life with Leo &#8211 looks like

Leo &#8211 is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzbund Basel Regional.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leo &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leo &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzbund Basel Regional handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leo &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leo &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzbund Basel Regional will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leo &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leo &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzbund Basel Regional early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leo &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
