Adopt Leonard

European Shorthair · Male · Adult · 4 years

Our Warrior, who finally wants to arrive ❤️Leonard is a very special tomcat. His past life was marked by hardships, pain, and loneliness. As a stray, he came to us in a very poor condition, covered in old and new injuries that tell the story of how hard his everyday life must have been. For weeks, Leonard was treated, cared for, and accompanied. Today, his wounds have healed. Some old injuries, however, have left marks that will remain. An old, likely improperly healed hind leg fracture causes Leonard to limp slightly. But this does not hinder him; he is not restricted in his movement and lives pain-free.Leonard is still cautious in dealing with people. Trusting humans does not come easily to him, and he needs time to open up. But he wants to; one can feel it. Day by day, he makes small progress, observing, learning, and adapting to this new life. In contrast, Leonard gets along very well with other cats. He is very social and has already formed close friendships at the animal shelter. Fellow animals give him security and orientation, so a friendly second cat would do him a lot of good. For Leonard, we are searching for a loving home with plenty of space, preferably with a garden, in a quiet environment. People with patience, understanding, and a big heart who are willing to give a traumatised animal a real chance without expectations but with a lot of trust. Leonard has endured so much. Now, all he needs is his own home where he can finally rest in peace ❤️ If you would like to meet Leonard, please fill out our inquiry form.

About Leonard

What life with Leonard looks like

Leonard is a large adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierhelfer Ingelheim e. V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leonard, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leonard?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhelfer Ingelheim e. V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leonard on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leonard if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhelfer Ingelheim e. V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leonard already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leonard isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhelfer Ingelheim e. V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leonard and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
