adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Our ice bear Leroy has likely already overcome many hurdles in its life. The biggest was for the 9-year-old white bear dog to survive a hunting shelter. Last year, he was rescued by our Romanian animal protectors from there and has lived in safety in our private animal shelter ever since. But this should not be Leroys final destination! As he is still quite shy and unfortunately there are not enough opportunities in the shelter to work with him and win his trust in a gentle and kind manner, we urgently need an anchor in the form of dog-experienced, warm-hearted people in Leroys life. A home where he can finally find peace and trust. Where he can eventually enjoy cuddles and attention. In the shelter, Leroy feels very lost, he is making more and more progress and hardly leaves his hut anymore. However, there are also situations in his life here that make him come alive: In the midst of other dogs, he seems to be in his element. With his zygote companions, his little world is in order – they are his support, his safe place in a world that is still unfamiliar to him. What Leroy needs now is not a loud, colorful world, but a quiet, safe haven to anchor in. We are looking for very special people who understand and respect his needs: Ideally, those who already have experience with shy dogs and know that progress is measured in weeks and months, not days. A quiet, rural home or a low-stimulus environment without much commotion and changing visitors would be perfect. It is essential that his people accept that Leroy will not seek proximity at first – it is about offering him a safe base, letting him have his space, and allowing him to set his own pace until he takes the first hesitant step on his own. Optionally, but wonderfully, a confident, compatible only-dog home could help Leroy settle and orient upon arrival. Leroy travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated to his new home. Also, his EU pet passport is in his luggage. After a positive But also an appropriate foster home would be a good option for the shy Leroy. Who will give Leroy a new beginning? A special thank you goes to Chris V.S. With your namesake sponsorship, you have made Leroy visible and given them the chance for a better future. A big thank you also goes to Katrin S., who has taken on a monthly sponsorship for Leroy as of April 28.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen!

About Leroy

What life with Leroy looks like

Leroy is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leroy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leroy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leroy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leroy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leroy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leroy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leroy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
