Adopt Lia

Galgo Español · Female · Senior · 9 years

Lia was adopted by a couple from an animal shelter and lived many years in a family with the dog Zeus. There are still scars visible on her body that remind of her past filled with abuse. In her previous home, two large, older dogs were eventually no longer wanted. Lia and Zeus were therefore mostly kept in the patio near the laundry room and spent most of their days there. Recently, they hardly came out of this area anymore. When Lia arrived at the animal shelter Melampo, she got injuries on her paw pads while walking on the sandy ground. This suggests that she had been rarely outside the patio for a long time before. Despite her past, Lia shows herself as a particularly gentle and loving female dog. She behaves calmly, submissively, cuddly, and obediently towards the volunteers. She has a friendly character. Lia is also well-behaved with other dogs. Lia tested negative for Mediterranean diseases at the vet. Lia walks well on a leash, travels calmly in the car, and remained calm and relaxed during the veterinary examination. Lia wishes for a loving home with people who meet her with patience and understanding and show her how beautiful a protected dog life can be. After everything she has experienced, we very much hope that the dear Lia will finally find her safe and permanent place in life. Please inform yourself about the breed "Galgo" so that Lia can stay with her new family forever.

About Lia

What life with Lia looks like

Lia is a senior galgo español dog waiting at Melampo in Melampo.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Melampo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Melampo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Melampo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
