Lico

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Lico - a shy dog looking for people with heart and sensitivity 🐾💙 Lico is one of those dogs whose story cannot be told in a few words. For him, it's not about quickly gaining his trust or turning him into an open-hearted family dog within a few days. For Lico, it's about giving him the time he needs - and showing him that human closeness is not something threatening. Lico was found with his siblings and has been living with us at the animal shelter ever since. His start in life was far from easy. Contact with people has been difficult for him so far, and especially strangers make him anxious. When he feels uncertain, Lico has so far tried to gain distance and flee, rather than moving forward or snapping. This shows us that above all, he needs: security and people who respect his boundaries. At our shelter, Lico shows himself to be a cautious and reserved dog. At the same time, he has already made small but very important progress over time. He now comes to the fence to greet us. He takes treats from our hands and stays with us more and more often. Even though he is still cautious, with a lot of patience and some treat support, cautious stroking is already possible. For us, these are no small things. For a dog like Lico, such moments are big steps. ❤️ He shows us that trust is possible - just not at the push of a button. We experience Lico particularly well in dealing with other dogs. Here he can leave his cautious side behind and shows himself to be much more relaxed. He likes to play with his fellow dogs and moves much more confidently in their company. A confident, friendly dog by his side could therefore be a great help to him in his new home and give him orientation. Lico is not a dog who will immediately run up to a stranger and let himself be stroked without problems. He needs people who understand that trust must grow. People who are not disappointed if he withdraws at the beginning. People who can take a step back if something becomes too much for him - and are all the more delighted by every small step forward. That's why we are looking for very special people for Lico. 💙 People with a lot of empathy, patience and sensitivity. People who do not expect him to become a completely different dog overnight. People who are willing to give him time and take his body language seriously. People who understand that even a cautious approach, accepting a treat or the first voluntary touch can be a huge trust gesture. His future people should give him the opportunity to arrive at his own pace. Pressure and coercion would not help Lico. Rather, he needs peace, clear and loving structures and a safe retreat where he can withdraw at any time. Even walks and everyday life outside will probably have to be built up very carefully. Lico is not familiar with harnesses and leashes yet, and these things should also be built up slowly and with a lot of patience. Especially because strangers make him anxious, his introduction should be designed particularly carefully. Therefore, whoever gets involved with Lico should know: His

About Lico

What life with Lico looks like

Lico is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Mischlingsliebe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lico, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lico?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Mischlingsliebe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lico on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lico if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Mischlingsliebe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Lico already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lico isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Mischlingsliebe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lico and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
