Lili

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Lili and her two siblings were brought to us by a friendly animal welfare team. All three of them were wandering in the wilderness, where it was not easy to catch them. We do not know what their lives were like before, but one thing is certain: their trust in people was lost somewhere along the way. When they came to us, for days they hardly dared to come out. Every new noise, movement or approach filled them with fear. It was heartbreaking to see how much they feared what many dogs love most: human closeness. However, since then Lili has made a huge progress. Today she is curious about us, interested in seeking human company, and although there is still uncertainty in her, she is overcoming her fears more and more often. She even accepts petting, which is a great step for her. We are looking for a new owner for Lili who knows exactly that the trust of a shy dog cannot be rushed. Time, patience, understanding and lots of love will be needed for her to open up completely. There will be small successes and perhaps setbacks too, but every single step taken together brings us closer to a wonderful relationship. We believe that somewhere there is waiting for her the person who does not look at how quickly she develops, but will be happy that she becomes braver day by day. If someone is willing to give time to Lili and accepts that building trust is a long process, in return they get a loyal companion for life. Because when such a dog once closes someone in her heart, she loves them with all her heart.

HU·Show original

About Lili

What life with Lili looks like

Lili is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Állatvédelmi Centrum in Hungary.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lili, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lili?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Állatvédelmi Centrum handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lili on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lili if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Állatvédelmi Centrum will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lili already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lili isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Állatvédelmi Centrum early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lili and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
