Adopter found👉 click here for our available adoptable dogs in the Netherlands Or 👉 click here for our available adoptable dogs, still in the animal shelter in Romania ** for an explanation, please read Why we are cautious about placing our dogs with families with (young) children. Original information about Linux, we have now found an adopter for her: Character: Linux is a cheerful, energetic and playful young dog with a big heart for her people. She is affectionate and visibly enjoys cuddle moments on the couch, where a tummy massage is absolutely her favorite. She likes to be near her caretaker and keeps a close eye on you - partly because she is hard of hearing and relies heavily on visual stimuli. She is curious and open, but in new situations she may first be a bit hesitant or uncertain. She often looks at the cat from the tree and takes in her surroundings carefully. With some guidance and trust, she picks this up quickly. Linux is smart and eager to learn, although her hearing loss sometimes requires a bit more patience and creativity in training.

About Linux

What life with Linux looks like

Linux is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Straydogs Rescue Nederland in RC Nieuwe Pekela.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Linux, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Linux?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Straydogs Rescue Nederland handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Linux on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Linux if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Straydogs Rescue Nederland will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Linux already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Linux isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Straydogs Rescue Nederland early rather than rehoming privately; they know Linux and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
