Lisa

Alaskan Malamute · Female · Puppy · 2 months

Lisa is looking for a committed family who understand that puppies require time, patience, and consistency. She cannot be left alone initially, and any time spent alone will need to be introduced gradually. Like many of her breed, Lisa is wonderfully vocal and won't hesitate to 'sing'! Having had a rocky start to life, she will need continued socialisation and positive exposure to everyday sights, sounds, and experiences. She is taking everything in her stride so far and would particularly benefit from an active home with experience of her breed or similar breeds. With plenty of love, guidance, and patience, Lisa is sure to grow into a fantastic and devoted companion. Lisa is an 8-week-old puppy with a confident, friendly nature who absolutely adores people and loves nothing more than being around her human family. She is happy meeting new people and is confident around other dogs, and could happily live with an older, tolerant dog following a successful introduction at the centre. Lisa could also live with cats, small furries, and primary school-aged children who are familiar with large breed dogs. As a high-energy breed, she will thrive in an active home where she can enjoy plenty of physical exercise, training, and mental enrichment as she grows into adulthood.

About Lisa

What life with Lisa looks like

Lisa is a large puppy/kitten alaskan malamute dog waiting at Dogs Trust Basildon in Wickford.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lisa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lisa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Basildon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lisa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lisa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Basildon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lisa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lisa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Basildon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lisa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
