Rex

Alaskan Malamute · Male · Puppy · 2 months

Rex is looking for a home with loving and active adopters who can take him on sniffy adventures, who will take the time to help him settle in and give him all the love and attention he deserves. He is a friendly bean who could live with primary school children who are confident with larger, clumsy dogs, who will play with him nicely and will give him space to rest when needed. Rex could live with another dog who will happily co-exist and engage in occasional play, this will be pending successful meets at the centre; although living with another dog is not a necessity, he would be happy with polite and friendly walking buddies. He would like a home with a private or communal, secure garden for him to potter about in at his leisure and for him to do toilet training easily. Rex is still a pup so would like someone home the majority of the time, especially to begin with, any leaving time would need to be built up slowly once he has had time to settle into his new home. Rex will need to meet his adopters a few times prior to going home so please bear this in mind when applying. Please note that should you be shortlisted, our rehoming process usually takes up to 7 days, and potential adopters would be required to come up to the centre to meet him within 48hrs of being shortlisted. Rex and his siblings (Woody, Bo and Jessie) are ready to start looking for their forever homes. If you are interested in one of the pups please favourite Rex and we will be in contact if one of the them are match. Sweet and affectionate boy Rex is an almost 8 week old Malamute pup who loves a snuggle. He is super playful and clever and will keep you laughing with his silly antics. This cute fluffball and his siblings are ready to find their new homes.

About Rex

What life with Rex looks like

Rex is a puppy/kitten alaskan malamute dog waiting at Dogs Trust Canterbury in Chestfield.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rex, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rex?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Canterbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rex on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rex if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Canterbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rex already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rex isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Canterbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rex and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
