Liv

European Shorthair · Female · Adult · 8 years

Hello, I am Liv, an 8-year-old female cat! Yes, I am difficult – some might even say I have sauerkraut in my head! My foster staff had to endure some injuries already: biting, scratching, but do you still love me? Thankfully, the staff has seen similar cases, they are tough, everything heals well, and they are not at all vengeful. To my defense, I would like to mention that there were different stress factors for my behavior: other cats, pain, and as it was recently discovered, possibly the Rolling Skin Syndrome, a little-known nerve disease that also causes me to constantly try to chase my tail. Now, they are trying to manage the pain with a long-term injection. Since then, Liv has become much more relaxed. Her hobbies include observing birds in her outdoor enclosure and playing, for example, with a colorful ribbon wand. She enjoys cuddles, will roll onto her back, and belly rubs are in order – of course with the wand, NOT with her fingers. In homeopathic doses, it works quite well. Liv is not an exhausting cat who constantly clings to your leg, lies on your lap, or wants to be scratched. She greatly enjoys the presence of people who accept her, learn to read her, give her enough space, and still provide the attention she needs – love at a distance. You can talk to Liv, show her what behavior is okay and what is not. She does not need to be wrapped in cotton. Liv is a lovable soul soother! The royal discipline is then to be allowed to gently stroke Liv's head with your hand, but for that, the puzzle must first be complete. So, who will take up the challenge to give Liv a beautiful, peaceful forever home? After a slightly longer adjustment period, please allow her free roam or a secured roam – then she can also pursue her hobbies. Children or other pets should not be in the household.

About Liv

What life with Liv looks like

Liv is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Kolner Tierschutzverein in Köln.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Liv, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Liv?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kolner Tierschutzverein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Liv on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Liv if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kolner Tierschutzverein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Liv already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Liv isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kolner Tierschutzverein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Liv and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
