Adopt Lizzy

Podenco · Female · Adult · 5 years

Animal Shelter Tenerife Update January 10, 2026: 6 new photos added after the profile photo. Input July 24, 2025: Lizzy is a beautiful Podenco puppy with a unique mix of sensitivity and confidence. Affectionate, a lovely cuddly bottom and playful but also sensitive, insecure and a little bit shy. Lizzy needs her own person, stability, a sense of safety, a routine... At first she can be fearful and unsure, but once she has built up trust, she shows her loving and crazy side. Then you have a shadow by your side. And a shadow with a lot of sense of humor and craziness. Lizzy enjoys being under the human and longs for love and safety. When she has this...she gives it back threefold to you! Lizzy generally gets along well with other dogs, but she likes to take the leadership role. She currently lives with both males and females. A confident second dog who accepts her leadership or loves her into balance would be an ideal match for her new home. Lizzy approaches strangers and new situations cautiously, and sometimes even with fear, but with the right support, her curiosity quickly takes over. Lizzy had to learn everything with us. She came from a hunter who no longer wanted her. A place of her own without a chain that restricts her, kind people around her, daily walks...You can clearly tell that sometimes she still thinks she is dreaming and is extremely grateful. A home of her own, a soft bed and even a special person who can offer her the safety she needs to continue growing...that's what we're looking for for her!

About Lizzy

What life with Lizzy looks like

Lizzy is a adult podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lizzy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lizzy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lizzy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lizzy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lizzy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lizzy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lizzy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
