Lobito

Podenco · Male · Adult · 4 years

Lobito was found alone and without a chip in a village and subsequently taken to an animal shelter. There he lived together with Logo and Nero. After the closure of the animal shelter, Melampo took him so that he gets the chance for a new home. Lobito is an active, friendly and playful dog who enjoys human contact very much. He is extremely affectionate, seeks the proximity of his caregivers and enjoys every petting and hug. In dealing with the helpers he shows himself attached, obedient and grateful. Also with other dogs Lobito is very social. He avoids conflicts, runs smoothly in a larger dog group. So he can enjoy daily walks in the dog group and lives harmoniously both with males and females. Lobito walks well on a leash and drives calmly and relaxed in the car. At the vet Lobito was tested negative for Mediterranean diseases. Lobito wants people who give him the attention and affection he loves so much. We are sure that he will settle in well through his open nature. Nevertheless, it should be considered that he has lived in an animal shelter so far and should be accompanied lovingly and patiently during the settling-in period. Please inform yourself about the breed Podenco so that Lobito can stay in his new home forever.

DE·Show original

About Lobito

What life with Lobito looks like

Lobito is a adult podenco dog waiting at Melampo in Melampo.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lobito, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lobito?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Melampo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lobito on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lobito if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Melampo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lobito already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lobito isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Melampo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lobito and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
