Loki

Mixed Breed · Male

Loki still displays ambivalent behavior regarding handling and care. While he shows himself to be a lively and approachable dog when no direct expectations are placed on him, he brought his toy with great joy during our visit, enjoyed cuddles, and interacted in a consistently friendly manner. However, it remains impossible to put a collar or harness on him or hold him without his behavior abruptly changing. In such situations, he reacts with rejection and displays clear aggressive behavior. Even basic care measures are not tolerated by him, so even the removal of the matted fur was not possible. We met Loki at the shelter in late October 23. The energetic Loki does not take well to being confined. Often, during our visits, we observed him pressing his snout against the bars or lying dejected and resigned in a corner. When approaching the kennel, he would stand up and stretch his paw through the bars, begging for attention. Treats were taken, but he seemed to enjoy the cuddles even more. Loki is a wonderful male dog, friendly with people, lively, cuddly, and playful. When the kennel door opens, his heart leaps with joy, and he runs happily through the run, greeting everyone. Loki enjoys cuddles and climbs onto laps, but is just as happy chasing after the toys. An absolute dream dog… Loki has suffered a trauma, and when a collar is placed on him, he panics and forgets everything around him. Ancsa trains him on harness fitting, and we hope that Loki will make rapid progress and travel to a loving home. Loki was picked up by a dog catcher and brought to the kill shelter. The owner did not search for him, and no one wanted to adopt Loki. Ancsa took him in and was rewarded with many dog kisses. Loki was very happy when he was rescued from the tiny kennel of the shelter after weeks and ran joyfully in the open. The sweet one is very open and seeks the proximity of people. When someone approaches the kennel, he jumps up at the bars and begs for attention. Loki gets along well with other dogs. Loki is afraid of the leash, likely because the dog catcher caught him with a snare. When Ancsa wanted to practice leash training with him, he reacted very anxiously and also showed a defensive snap. We hope that Loki will soon develop a fondness for himself and leave the bars behind forever.

About Loki

What life with Loki looks like

Loki is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Fellfreunde e.V. in Solingen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Loki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Loki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fellfreunde e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Loki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Loki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fellfreunde e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Loki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Loki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fellfreunde e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Loki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
