Loki

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 8 years

A very special dog is urgently looking for a home or foster care. Loki is currently in a Spanish animal shelter and is waiting there for people who recognize what a wonderful guy he is. Because now Loki urgently needs help. The handsome shepherd mix has a disability: his left front leg ends at the carpal joint. Yet, like many dogs with physical differences, Loki copes surprisingly well and has maintained his joy of life. Loki loves movement. Trips to the beach, playing with fellow dogs or with the caretakers - these are his special moments of happiness. He walks perfectly on a leash and behaves so well outside that he is one of the absolute favorites among the volunteers at the shelter (which earns him an extra walk or two). But even though Loki is so brave - his situation carries serious risks. Due to the constant additional strain on his healthy front leg, secondary damage can occur. To prevent exactly that, the adaptation of a prosthesis would be an important and meaningful measure, so that Loki can be as physically relieved as possible and remain mobile in the long term. For this step to be possible at all, Loki urgently needs at least one foster home. Only outside the shelter can further examinations, advice and possible prosthetic provision be organized. In the shelter, this is simply not possible - and time is working against him: Life in the kennel brings another factor into play that worsens his situation. Loki has gained weight, which increases the overload on his healthy leg. So right now, it's about Loki's future and whether he can continue to be independent and mobile. Here you can find the donation appeal "Medicinal Bowl Loki". Unfortunately, we know nothing about his past, and also not how much experience this dear guy already has with living in a household (for example, whether he is housebroken). This would have to be worked out step by step in his new environment. With patience, structure and loving guidance, he will certainly manage it. For Loki, we wish people who are not disturbed by his disability, but see his strength and joy of life. People who are ready to take responsibility - and give him the chance for a healthy future. Even just one foster home can make a decisive difference for Loki. We always ask not to take the responsibility for a dog lightly. However, the conscientious decision to give a dog like Loki a chance means not only responsibility - it also means opening the way for a very special, cheerful dog to a safe and protected life. DE·Show original

About Loki

What life with Loki looks like

Loki is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Loki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Loki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Loki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Loki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Loki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Loki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Loki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
