Lotte

Female · Adult · 4 years

I am Lotte, a Kangal female with a large head and an even larger heart, looking for an experienced home. Would you like to learn more about me? I was rehomed before but unfortunately had to return due to aggression issues. Generally, I am lively, gentle, and vigilant, but also very skittish and anxious. I am suspicious of strangers and react quickly with defense on walks, especially towards men, joggers, and cyclists. I don't like cats or birds. I am smart, know basic commands, can open doors, and, uh, jump over fences. I am house-trained, and being alone for a few hours works for me. My insecurity can manifest as fear and territorial aggression. With clear, fair leadership, I will thrive—I need people who neither coddle nor are rough, but are calm, consistent, and reliable. A confident, well-matched only dog might work, depending on the household dynamics, and children should not live in the home. Good dog training classes and structured training would be beneficial. I wish for a quiet home on the outskirts or in the countryside, with a securely fenced garden and high, stable fences, as well as well-secured doors—I am, after all, really clever and inventive. My people should be dog-experienced, willing to work with me, and safely accompany me through encounters outside. Please plan several visits so we can get to know each other in peace. Could this perhaps work for us?

About Lotte

What life with Lotte looks like

Lotte is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Previous aggression issues, fear-based and territorial aggression, requires specialized training and secure fencing

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lotte, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lotte?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lotte on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lotte if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lotte already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lotte isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lotte and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
