Adopt Luisella

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

05-07-2017 - Today we wish you a good morning like this, with Luisella. Confined in a cage for who knows how long, tied around the neck with an electrical wire, exposed to any kind of weather at the entrance of the Romani camp in Olbia, here she is after two days at our animal shelter, which for her might be a five-star hotel. She is crazy with happiness, greets and cuddles everyone. I think some people are not able to look animals in the eyes, to grasp the meaning that they are able to give us, because otherwise all this cruelty towards them would not make sense. 04-07-2017 - And here is today Luisella, we discovered her wonderful character. She is adorable, she is happiness made into a dog. You cannot imagine the kisses she gives us. We are so proud of having taken her from that terrible hell. Today she underwent tests, she tested positive for heartworm and anaplasma. We will treat her and she will become a champion. She has a wonderful character. Luisella thanks all of you who will help her regain the life that was denied to her. Thank you from this little martyr. Click on the photos to enlarge them! 04-07-2017 - Today, following a report from a citizen, we intervened at the entrance of the Romani camp in Olbia to rescue a poor dog, confined inside a cage under the scorching sun, without shelter, and even though it was locked up, they had tied it with an electric wire. How many people have seen it and turned their gaze away without doing anything? It's just a dog, they might have thought. Those who treat animals like this, treat children and women in the same way. We liberated her from that hell and took her to our animal shelter. The images speak for themselves, no reporter is needed to describe them. For us, it's yet another blow to the stomach. She is a very sweet small female dog that we decided to name Luisella. She is full of wounds, we will heal her body and her devastated soul. Tomorrow, when she undergoes all the preventive treatments, we will inform you. We are right next to Olbia airport, Costa Smeralda, and yet it seems like we are in the third world. A story already lived, which you never get used to: the deep degradation of the Romani camp in Olbia. We talk about integration? We are all good with words, yet there, just a few steps from the city, human beings live at the edge of an evolved civilization. Some of them have civilized, others live in a prehistoric world, with their customs and traditions far from all of us and from those who have enacted laws to welcome them. What is needed is a tough but effective integration policy with rights, but also with equal duties and no privileges, with expulsion for those who commit crimes or live according to models incompatible with the values of a civilized society. Enough hiding behind silence. Just a parenthesis to make our politicians understand that integration is not this, this is pure uncivilization.

About Luisella

What life with Luisella looks like

Luisella is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at L.I.D.A. Olbia in Olbia.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luisella, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luisella?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. L.I.D.A. Olbia handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luisella on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luisella if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — L.I.D.A. Olbia will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Luisella already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luisella isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with L.I.D.A. Olbia early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luisella and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
