Get to know Luke right here in the video! Goldie puppy Luke is looking for a loving family Puppy Luke was found in an abandoned house where stray dogs had taken shelter. The adult dogs were often very frightened. They were sterilized and released again. The puppies could also be rescued and were taken into the shelter. For more information on how the dogs come to the shelter and answers to general questions, see our animal welfare FAQ. Our puppy rascal pack has so far shown the lively, playful nature typical of puppies. These small, clumsy furballs are exploring their world; some are a bit shyer, others are already self-assured. Their characters will continue to develop over the coming weeks and months; at this point, only the beginnings are visible. If you would like more information about this furball, feel free to write to our placement team. If nothing applies to the furball, please delete the entire container. We suspect that HUNDENAME may have a Livestock Guardian Dog (HSH) mix in them. Please inform yourself here about the requirements for adopting a Livestock Guardian Dog. HSH mixes are often very independent and need confident, assertive leadership. HUNDENAME has a cropped ear / two cropped ears / a cropped tail. Many dogs in Romania have these cut off to make the animals look more dangerous. HUNDENAME has a short tail. It is unclear whether its tail is cropped or naturally short. HUNDENAME is currently underweight. On the street or in kill shelters, the animals usually get too little to eat or nothing at all, so they become severely emaciated. In the shelter, however, our furball is being given more food again and hopefully will soon return to a normal weight. HUNDENAME was ill with parvovirus. Fortunately, the little one survived the virus. Our placement team knows best about the exact state of health. If you have any further questions, feel free to send us a message. MANDATORY for medical findings (please delete) Our placement team knows best about the exact state of health. If you have any further questions, feel free to send us a message. Puppies should not have to grow up in a shelter. That is why we urgently seek a loving home or an experienced foster placement for this little furball – a place where it can discover the world, build trust, and simply be a puppy. Anyone adopting a puppy should be aware of how demanding everyday life with a young dog can be: as soon as house-training is achieved, the "wild adolescence" often begins – full of energy, uncertainties, and new challenges. The first years of life are an exciting journey that human and dog walk together – with highs, lows, and plenty of learning moments. We hope for this furball to find people with patience, empathy, and perseverance – and with an understanding that shelter dogs often come with a certain history. How exactly they will react to their new life in Germany can never be fully predicted. But one thing is certain: whoever adopts rather than buys not only gives an animal a second chance, but actively chooses against animal suffering – and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already smitten? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering adoption, first read through the placement process. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, de-flead, and neutered before departure (exceptions are puppies under 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are additionally tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any further questions, feel free to send our placement team a message.

About Luke

What life with Luke looks like

Luke is a puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luke, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luke?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luke on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luke if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Luke already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luke isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luke and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
