Luna

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Luna is a beautiful red Podenca, born on June 1, 2023, about 40 centimeters tall and currently at the ArcoNatura animal shelter in Linares. While "at home" is generously phrased, an animal shelter provides safety, food, and care, but it doesn't replace a personal bed, familiar people, or a strategically located sofa spot. When Luna was found, she was hungry and thirsty, roaming a rural area near Linares. Residents initially provided her with water and food. A neighbor gradually gained her trust until she could be secured. Since June 2023, she has been at our partner's shelter. Initially, she was shy, but now she often seeks human contact, enjoys petting, and is developing into an affectionate, gentle companion. She is loving, tender, playful, and has a calm character. She gets along well with other dogs, and on the few occasions she was allowed to test, she showed great enthusiasm for toys. Podencos are special dogs. They are considered sensitive, intelligent, attentive, and often surprisingly perceptive. Many have a strong hunting instinct, as their eyes, ears, and especially their noses work well in high-performance mode. A rustling leaf can be more important than any human life plan for a moment. Therefore, a securely fenced garden, a well-fitting safety harness, and responsible leash management are part of the basic equipment. Free running is initially only sensible in secured areas. At the same time, Podencos are often pleasant and quiet in the house, love soft places to lie down, and master the art of making themselves longer on a sofa than their body size would suggest. We wish for patient people for Luna who give her time to arrive and appreciate her fine nature. A confident first-time dog can be helpful, but it's not a must, as long as her people offer her security, clear structures, and loving consistency. It is currently not reliably known whether Luna can live with cats or children, and this should be considered before a

About Luna

What life with Luna looks like

Luna is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Luna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
