Lupa

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 7 years

Lupa appears to be an absolutely wonderful dog, with a gentle and kind soul. After much coaxing and encouragement, she left her safe enclosure and has blossomed into a happy, thriving dog. She has a favorite person among the staff, and lights up with joy whenever that person comes along to offer her a walk. Lupa walks nicely on a leash and thoroughly enjoys her newfound freedom. She strolls slowly around, sniffing at everything interesting—everything is new to her after her life as a chained dog. Sometimes she can feel a bit uncertain in a new situation, so then she turns to her human for support. Lupa has proven to be an excellent foster mother to the mischievous puppy Harry. She sets boundaries for him, and he feels safe and secure in her company. Together, they make a delightful pair as they wander around side by side. Lupa has met several of the shelter’s other dogs, but she’d like her canine friends to be a bit calmer and gentler. She probably hasn’t had much dog contact in her previous life, which is common for dogs who’ve lived chained. Therefore, she needs to get acquainted with other dogs at her own pace. Cats are no problem—Lupa approaches them respectfully and gives them a light sniff. We’re now looking for a safe, loving home for our sweet Lupa, one located in a peaceful environment. Her human should enjoy spending time outdoors in nature and exploring together—but Lupa would also love having quiet moments filled with closeness and friendly conversation. She’d happily live as an only dog in a home where plenty of quality time can be spent with her, though she could also share her home with a kind, stable canine companion or even a cat. She wouldn’t be suited to homes with very young children. We don’t know Lupa’s full background, so it’s crucial that she never be pressured in situations where she feels insecure—whether around new people or in unfamiliar environments. Background: On a beautiful April morning, a dog was seen wandering back and forth outside the enclosure. No leash, no collar. Tired and confused. The dog didn’t seem to know what to do, just aimlessly wandering around—a clear sign that it had recently been dumped from a car that had simply driven away. Even from a distance, it was obvious that there was...

About Lupa

What life with Lupa looks like

Lupa is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hundhjälpen in Stockholm.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇪Adopting from Sweden

Swedish shelters require an adoption application and home visit. Animals are chipped, vaccinated, and sterilized. Cross-border placements within the EU use the standard pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lupa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lupa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundhjälpen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lupa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lupa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundhjälpen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lupa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lupa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundhjälpen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lupa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
