Maddie

Poodle · Female · Adult · 4 years

Sweet girl Maddie loves belly rubs from her trusted people. She adores home comforts like snuggling on the sofa with lots of cushions and blankets. The cosier the better! She is playful and fun and loves to play with her toys, her favourite is a ball which she loves to chase after. She also enjoys soft toys and sometimes de-fluffing them. Maddie likes to chill out in her garden and keep an eye on the birds. Maddie prefers her walks away from crowded towns and places with traffic, her favourite spots are the woods, the park, or the beach. Maddie will happily paddle her little paws in water to cool off. She enjoys meeting and greeting other dogs as long as they are gentle and not boisterous. Maddie loves treats especially chicken and sausages and she knows a big bag of tricks including a sit, stay, paw, down, and roll-over. Maddie with the most adorable curly mop is a three-year-old toy Poodle looking for a loving home. She could potentially share her home with an older, calm dog of similar size, or be equally as happy as the only dog in the home. She is looking for a home without cats or small furries and she likes to chase. We have no history of her around livestock. Maddie could share her home with upper secondary school children. She is worried of young children. She is friendly but shy around new people including visitors to the home and would best suit a quiet household. Maddie has history of being okay left alone at home for a few hours at a time. She is housetrained and happy to travel in the car. Potential adopters will need to come to the centre and meet Maddie a couple of times to make friends before taking her home.

About Maddie

What life with Maddie looks like

Maddie is a large adult poodle dog waiting at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe in Ilfracombe.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maddie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maddie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Ilfracombe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maddie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maddie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Ilfracombe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maddie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maddie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Ilfracombe early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maddie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
