Murphy

Poodle · Male · Adult · 4 years

Meet Murphy (17kg). Murphy is a lovely, friendly boy with a big heart and an even bigger love for people! He is an incredibly affectionate, people-oriented lad who absolutely thrives on human attention. The more fuss, cuddles and affection he can get, the happier he is. He loves spending time with his people and would make a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys long walks and adventures and enjoys having a four-legged friend by their side. Murphy is still very much a big puppy at heart. He’s a giddy excitable boy who can get rather carried away with his enthusiasm, and he does tend to jump up when greeting people. He is full of life, love and energy, so he will need an adopter who can help him channel all that excitement positively and continue working on his manners. One of Murphy’s favourite things is having off-lead time in our secure compound where he can chase about, have a good sniff and enjoy himself. He is looking for a very active home where he can enjoy lots of long walks, exciting adventures and plenty of opportunities to burn off his energy. But it’s not just exercise that Murphy needs. This clever, lively boy will also benefit from lots of mental stimulation, interactive games and activities to keep his busy mind occupied. He would absolutely love a home where someone is around for most of the day to give him attention, companionship and the engagement he craves. Murphy’s ideal home would be – An active family who enjoys long walks and outdoor adventures. A home committed to providing mental enrichment, interactive play and continued training. Previous experience of the breed/s would be an advantage. Murphy has so much love to give and will bring plenty of fun, laughter and affection into the right home. He is looking for someone who will enjoy his lively personality, meet his exercise and stimulation needs, and give him all the love an fuss his heart desires. He will need a private secure garden. Murphy has interacted with other dogs while in our care, and although he is happy to walk alongside them he doesn’t like them in his face, so he would be happiest being rehomed as the only dog in the home. As Murphy came into the home as a stray, we have no previous history on him so would prefer any children in the home to be 14+ years.

About Murphy

What life with Murphy looks like

Murphy is a medium-sized adult poodle dog waiting at Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) in Manchester.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Murphy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Murphy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Murphy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Murphy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Murphy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Murphy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Murphy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
