Adopt Maiko-Joschua

Poodle · Male · Senior · 9 years

Name: Maiko-Joschua – the Pudel with Double Name Breed: Standard Poodle Color: black and tan Age: March 5, 2017 Gender: male neutered: yes Traits: Hello dear Lockenfreunde! Allow me to introduce myself: I am Maiko-Joschua (9.6 kg / SH: 44 cm) – sounds like high nobility, and I certainly live up to that. Unfortunately, I have been in the animal shelter for quite some time and I desperately wish to find a family again. In the past, I have clearly fallen short, which has cemented some unfavorable behavioral traits. These must now be consistently and with much understanding of dogs addressed and unlearned – this means time, patience, and experience. Currently, wearing a muzzle is also part of my daily routine, which I manage without issue. If interested, my caretakers will gladly explain more. Although I am generally a rather quiet and friendly companion, I do have a clear tendency to defend my trusted people and my home against what I perceive as threatening people. This behavior can be problematic and requires secure, consistent handling. However, if I gain trust and feel safe with my people, I can show my best side. I am a very affectionate and devoted companion – but only if you are willing to invest the necessary work with me. Currently, I am diligently working on my dog ABC and am with great curiosity and motivation involved. I am beginning to trust my people better and find training very exciting! Outdoors, I am already quite sovereign. On the go and enjoy long walks and hikes very much, but still need to learn to better orient myself to people and want to discover much more of the world. So far, I get along well with other animals, although of course there are always some who are not so to my liking. It is likely that after a certain period of adaptation and training, I can also be left alone for short periods, and car rides are no problem for me. I wish for a quiet home in a more rural area, far from the hustle and bustle of the city. Dog experience is a must. A sovereign second dog might be possible, depending on the chemistry. I especially find female dogs nice. What is important is that the potential dog companion is already well trained and environmentally safe. Children or cats should not live in the household. I would be happy to convince you with my lively and sovereign nature. For a meeting with me, please fill out the application form. Many thanks and hopefully soon! About Maiko-Joschua

What life with Maiko-Joschua looks like

Maiko-Joschua is a medium-sized senior poodle dog waiting at Berner Tierzentrum in Switzerland.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maiko-Joschua, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maiko-Joschua?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Berner Tierzentrum handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maiko-Joschua on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maiko-Joschua if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Berner Tierzentrum will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maiko-Joschua already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maiko-Joschua isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Berner Tierzentrum early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maiko-Joschua and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
