Mara : Female 6 Years old . 2020 Medium At 6 years old, Mara was rescued from the notorious “house of horror”, where around 300 dogs were living in truly appalling, squalid and inhumane conditions. Given what she has endured, we honestly cannot understand how she has come through it all as the wonderfully balanced, gentle and loving girl she is today Mara is a gentle, calm soul Our team met her in August 2026, and they said: Meet Mara! What can we say about Mara? Sometimes a dog comes along who is simply everything you could hope for – and Mara is one of those dogs Mara is, quite simply, exceptional. She lives happily alongside lots of other dogs and is absolutely wonderful with every one of them. During the week we spent with her, she was often happiest lying peacefully in the shade, watching the world go by. But she certainly isn’t an old lady! She enjoyed joining the other dogs for little runs, playing with us and showing us her fun side. More than once, we found ourselves thinking, “Is she really six?” What makes Mara so special is her ability to simply enjoy being with you. She doesn’t demand attention or constantly seek entertainment. She is perfectly happy to lie quietly beside her person, enjoying gentle strokes and the comfort of simply being close We think Mara would thrive in a calm to moderately calm home where she can finally experience the peaceful, secure life she has always deserved. She could happily live with another kind, friendly dog, but she would also be perfectly content as the only dog with someone who wants a gentle companion by their side Mara doesn’t need a complicated life. She just needs love, security, companionship and the chance to finally be someone’s special girl And please, don’t overlook her because she is black. Don’t overlook her because she is six.
