Margot

European Shorthair · Female · Young · 2 years

Meet Margot... This sweet girl came in as one of the first pregnant cats of this season. She was left behind in a place where she would certainly be found and taken care of. At just barely 2 years old, she had 4 beautiful little ones that she raised with devotion. Her babies have all found nice new homes and now it's Margot's turn! Because she went into foster care, we know a bit more about her. And actually nothing but good things.Margot has everything you would want in a cat. She is fearless, sweet and affectionate. Although not directly a lap cat (although as a mother she of course didn't have much time for that) she loves to be close to you. She has a whole collection of sounds and with her soft voice she will melt your heart. She likes to lie on the windowsill, to relax and look out the window. She is also very playful. She especially loves hunting games, playing together with a fishing rod or chasing after a ping pong ball... it makes her extremely happy. We think she would like to be able to go outside in her new home. Otherwise, she doesn't have many demands. A house full of coziness, attention, good food, where from time to time also a good game session is on the menu, is all she needs. Is that exactly what you can offer? Then come and visit Margootje!

About Margot

What life with Margot looks like

Margot is a young adult european shorthair cat waiting at Dierenasiel Utrecht in Utrecht.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Margot, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Margot?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Utrecht handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Margot on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Margot if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Utrecht will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Margot already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Margot isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Utrecht early rather than rehoming privately; they know Margot and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
