Mea

European Shorthair · Female · Adult · 5 years

Mea is a shy stray cat about a year old. For a while we didn't see her at all. But now, after a few weeks in the space, she is finally getting more used to things and comes out more. We can't really pet her yet, but as soon as we start playing with the other cats in the space, she comes out curiously and wants to join in. And then she has so much fun that she forgets her fear. And like a stray cat should, she always comes out for bread. For her we are looking for a quiet household, without children or expecting children, with an experienced owner. Someone who is willing to spend a lot of time with her and enjoys helping her socialize further. Playing and eating have proven to be excellent ways to win her heart. Don't expect her to sit on your lap within a few weeks. It will take more time and patience than that. But if you enjoy every step in the right direction, this will quickly bring a lot of satisfaction. Check our website under "shy cats and kittens" for more tips and information. Mea is comfortable around other cats but we actually never see her sleeping or playing with them. We think she can therefore be placed alone, the most important thing is that her new owner helps her develop with a lot of patience and commitment. Do you now think "this Mea is just right for me"? Come by our shelter, we would love to introduce her to you!

NL·Show original

About Mea

What life with Mea looks like

Mea is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Dierenasiel Utrecht in Utrecht.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mea, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mea?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Utrecht handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mea on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mea if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Utrecht will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mea already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mea isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Utrecht early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mea and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
