adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Maria was locally rehomed! Her story: Maria is only one year old – and yet she has already endured more than many dogs in their entire lives. As a street dog in Romania, she fought daily for survival, until a tragic accident sealed her fate: hit by a car, severely injured, and left to her own devices. But Maria is a fighter. She underwent surgery, recovered, and today shows no signs of her suffering – except for her incredible strength and unshakable will to live. Maria is playful, friendly, cuddly, and full of energy. She loves people as much as other dogs, has a sunny disposition, and is full of curiosity. Of course, she still needs to learn the small dog ABC – and sometimes she will test boundaries as she ages. With love, patience, and consistent handling, she will nevertheless become a faithful companion for life. Maria could be an American Staffordshire-Mix. That’s why she unfortunately cannot enter Germany – which makes it harder for her to find a home. But she is nothing but a treasure on four legs, simply longing to be loved. Visually unmistakable: her white fur, the black marking around her eye, and especially the heart-shaped marking on her nose make her a special sight. Her brown eyes radiate warmth, trust, and a longing for security. This brave soul has proven how strong she is – now she needs people who can show her that she has finally arrived. She travels neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and with an EU pet passport.

About Maria

What life with Maria looks like

Maria is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maria, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maria?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maria on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maria if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maria already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maria isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maria and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
