Marina

European Shorthair · Unknown · Young · 3 years

Update April 2026 In April we were able to visit Marina again. The arrangement of the animals in their cat enclosure has changed somewhat, resulting in less stress overall. Marina is still the first cat to approach when a person approaches their enclosure, eagerly seeking closeness and cuddles. Marina has trained her senses so well that she has gained much more security. We noticed that she is not completely blind on her remaining eye; in fact, the vet from L.I.D.A. suspects that she can at least recognize contours. In any case, Marina was the first to explore the new scratching posts we had built and secured a favorite spot in a cave. The three-year-old Marina has gained self-confidence and has also gotten along well with the large Bigio. The small female cat enchants one with her curious, charming, and cuddly nature. One simply has to love her. Lucky cat Marina wishes for more freedom and proximity to people who can give her security and love. She has bravely accepted her fate and is only waiting for a foster home or a blind-friendly cat shelter to finally move into. She gets along with friendly fellow animals but would also be happy as a solitary princess. Update January 2026 In Marina's enclosure, new cats with disabilities have moved in. I have the impression that Marina would prefer to do without the company of several cats and is therefore quite stressed. She meows when she feels crowded and is prevented from getting close to a human visitor whom she expects closeness and affection from. For Marina, it is increasingly important that she gets out of this situation and moves into a foster home or a blind-friendly cat shelter.

About Marina

What life with Marina looks like

Marina is a large young adult european shorthair cat waiting at PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Marina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Marina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Marina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Marina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Marina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Marina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Marina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
