MARIO

Labrador Retriever · Male · Adult · 5 years

MARIO - Dream dog needs a suitable home - 6.5 years, born approx. 2020 - vaccinated, chipped, neutered, EU passport. - Waiting in France - MARIO is estimated to be 5.5 years old and is simply a dream dog. He knows basic commands, took 2 minutes to learn "donne la patte" - give paw, is not a boring lap dog but calm, gets along with other dogs (no problem with friendly males). His history is unknown, but he is the typical dog of older people who fell ill or even died. He clearly knows life in the house, hardly pulls on the leash (although he really likes to leave the killing station as quickly as possible). On one of the photos he tries to make himself small. He is not huge, but a full-grown Labrador mix with a great big head. So you don't have to bend down to pet him. Sometimes he thinks he's still small and tries to snuggle up close. He takes treats very carefully, fingers are not a threat. I assume MARIO is also suitable for beginners. I wouldn't know what he would do in a dog school. Rather, he will explain to beginners how to deal with a dog 😉. We are now looking for the right people for this dream dog. MARIO - Traumhund sucht passendes Zuhause - 6,5 J., geb.ca.2020- geimpft, gechippt, kastriert, EU-Paß.

About MARIO

What life with MARIO looks like

MARIO is an extra-large adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting MARIO, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about MARIO?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw MARIO on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt MARIO if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is MARIO already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if MARIO isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know MARIO and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
