Adopt Marlin

Podenco · Male · Young · 3 years

Animal shelter Apama: Input May 22, 2026: I found this little fellow on April 28, 2026, on my way to the animal shelter. He was standing in the middle of the road, panting from the heat, and could barely walk. I stopped the car, and he came straight to me. I scanned him for a microchip, but he didn't have one, so I put him in the car, and he seemed to like it very much. No one claimed him, and given his condition, I don't think he was well-treated. He was very thirsty and hungry, a bit skinny, but what most stood out were his hind legs – there were no muscles, and the legs were very weak. He walked with his hind legs spread wide as if he couldn't bend his knees well. We think he might have been on a short chain or in a small cage, so he couldn't use his hind legs properly. Maybe he has been walking a lot since he lived on the street. He also clearly had pain. Since then, Marlin has been getting better every day! He has a wonderful personality – with people as well as with dogs. He is very affectionate towards people, grateful, and misses everyone when they're not around. He walks perfectly on a leash and is very calm in the car in his transport crate. He also gets along well with other dogs; he wants to be friends with everyone, but for now, the other dogs don't accept him yet...Marlin doesn't bark at all – only on the first day when I put him in his living space and left. But now he stays calm. He doesn't dig holes in the ground, but he loves his little bed and blanket – he doesn't tear them apart or drag them. His first meeting with cats also went well. It seems like he doesn't know what toys are. We tried balls and stuffed animals, but nothing happened; he doesn't even look at them. Poor little fellow. He will be the perfect dog for beginners or families with children because he is very gentle when playing with people. He greets us and wants to be petted, but always in his own gentle way. I really hope someone notices him soon so that he can finally enjoy life to the fullest – something he hasn't been able to do before. He deserves a family that overflows with love for him!

Sindsdien is Marlin gelukkig elke dag beter geworden!

About Marlin

What life with Marlin looks like

Marlin is a medium-sized young adult podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Marlin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Marlin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Marlin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Marlin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Marlin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Marlin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Marlin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
