Marmite

Presa Canario · Female · Young · 2 years

Meet Marmite. Our sweet and sensitive Presa Cross. Marmite arrived at Battersea as a stray, so we sadly have no history on her or how she is in a home. She is a loving and affectionate girl who does have a worried side and can come across a little shy. But she warms up to people quickly and once bonded loves nothing more to sit with her humans and enjoy a gentle fuss. She is looking for less experienced owners who have some knowledge of guarding breeds and who are willing to continue with her basic training in order to set her up for success in her new home. Marmite likes other dogs and has some nice social skills in place, therefore she could live with another dog that is the right match for her, a tolerant and confident dog that will offer play but will also take breaks. We don't have a history on Marmite so don't know if she has ever lived with cats, but we have not seen any chase behaviour onsite, so she could possibly live with a dog savvy cat with careful introductions. Marmite is looking for a new home away from the inner city with access to her own private garden. She is a wonderful and loving girl, but due to her worried nature, is best suited to an adults only household who can be involved with her daily training. Marmite really is a delight and has won everyone over with her gentle and sweet nature. She will no doubt be the most loyal and loving of companions in the home. If you have already completed our online rehoming form and would like to know more about Marmite, you can e-mail our rehoming team on to register your interest. ch for the dog in question.

About Marmite

What life with Marmite looks like

Marmite is a large young adult presa canario dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Marmite, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Marmite?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Marmite on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Marmite if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Marmite already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Marmite isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Marmite and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
